Privacy
This site has no cookies, no tracking scripts and no forms. Here is what happens to information about you when you visit, pay, write to me or hire me.
Visiting this site
- Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web host, it handles the technical details your browser sends with each visit, such as your IP address, to deliver the page and protect it from attacks.
- Cloudflare also tells me roughly how many visits the site gets. It counts them without cookies and without identifying you.
- The typefaces load from Google Fonts, so your browser fetches them from Google, which sees your IP address. How Google Fonts handles this.
Paying
Payments go through Stripe's checkout page on Stripe's own site. Stripe handles your card, and I never see your card number. Stripe sends me what the checkout asks for, such as your name and email address, and what you bought. Stripe's privacy policy.
Email to contact@branchandrecord.com is handled by Google Workspace. I read and answer it myself.
Your family research
If you hire me, I keep what you give me for the project: your contact details, interview notes, and the papers and photos you send, along with the research I do for you.
- It is used only for your project.
- It is shared only as you direct. Your share page is an unlisted page that anyone with the link can see. Living people appear by first name only, and living people under 18 are left off.
- The services I use to run the business and do the work, such as email, file storage, hosting, and research and writing software, hold the files for me. I don't sell your information, and I don't post your tree on public tree sites without your permission.
- You can ask me to delete it, and I'll delete every copy I keep. Backups held by the services I use expire on their own schedules, usually within 90 days. Payment records I must keep for taxes stay.
